Restorative Justice - Kelowna

This non-court alternative handles RCMP referrals involving youth (ages 12 to 17) who commit minor offenses. Restorative Justice helps keep youth out of the criminal court system by providing another way to hold them accountable. Through the guidance of trained volunteers; the youth, their guardian(s), the victim(s) and other supporters, participate in a process where the youth takes responsibility for their behaviour, learns how others are affected and takes steps to repair the harm done.

The group then develops a written agreement detailing what the youth can do to repair the harm caused and to prevent a similar situation from reoccurring. A trained Volunteer Mentor works with the youth to assist them in completing their agreement on time.

The Central Okanagan Restorative Justice Program deals with youth crime in the Westside, Kelowna, Mission, South East Kelowna, Rutland, Black Mountain and Lake Country.
