DunkDid you know 1 in 3 Canadians is currently affected by diabetes or prediabetes? The good news is type 2 diabetes can be prevented. That’s why Sun Life Financial has teamed up the Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada to offer the Dunk for Diabetes program that will be running at the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs - Martin Ave, Rutland and Webber Road Clubs.

Sun Life Dunk for Diabetes is a national initiative that helps prevent type 2 diabetes by teaching kids aged 7 – 12 the value of healthy, active lifestyles. Participants in the program will compete in weekly basketball-themed fitness and nutrition challenges over a four-week period. At the end of every week, prizes are given to the winners of each of the challenges.

Sun Life Dunk for Diabetes will launch with a Draft Party, on February 5th, 6th and 7th respectably at Webber Rd., Rutland and Martin Ave. Participants will sign a player “contract” located in their individual playbooks confirming their commitment to the Dunk For Diabetes program and overall commitment to living a healthy active lifestyle.

When the program wraps up, the top 10 kids from each of our Clubs will have the opportunity to attend a celebratory event on March 16th.

Thank you to Sun Life Financial for supporting our mission and providing resource to provide healthy lifestyles for children and youth giving them the best chance for “great future”!
