The Armstrong Club is also the home of the Armstrong Food Bank. We have a solid group of dedicated volunteers who have been providing valuable service for many years. In 2014 alone, 1,245.5 volunteer hours were logged!

I would like to bring special attention to volunteer John Hoile, who has been with us since 2001 and has logged 5,685 hours to the end of 2014. He started out as office help in 2001 and has seen many changes in our Armstrong office. John has assisted in our many golf tournaments, realtor food drives, Christmas Hampers, fundraisers, and we can always count of him to man the front reception at our office efficiently. John also volunteers at many other community organizations and events within Armstrong.

Gail Henderson came on board in 2006 to our Food Bank. Gail has logged approximately 2,558.7 hours with OBGC since 2006. She is a retired teacher’s assistant and registered nurse. As a volunteer the main focus of her duties are to inspect and sort incoming donated foods and packs hampers for distribution. Not to mention the creation of Christmas Hampers including toys! We are also lucky to have her husband Rod to help us during special events and when he is available on weekly basis.

Fran Brooks started as a Food Bank driver in 2009 during the busy Christmas season. She then became a regular weekly volunteer date sorting foods, inspecting to ensure quality and packing hampers for distribution. This all leads up to Christmas Hamper season where you will find this retiree busy as usual. Fran has logged approximately 1,657.8 hours with OBGC since 2009. Fran also volunteers with the local police here in Armstrong.

Allan Brooks is Fran’s retired husband who has been volunteering with her since 2009. Allan has logged approximately 1,597.2 hours. He is always fixing a gate or a door knob for us when he notices a problem. Allan is always cheerful assisting with the movement of foods from one space to another along with the usual duties of sorting and packing. Allan and Fran enjoy rock-hounding in their spare time with many interesting finds.

We also have our youth volunteers: Cory, Christine & Ashley. We have many others who look forward to coming out year after year to help us during special events such as the Realtors Food Drive, and the Christmas Hamper season.

Our Armstrong Food Bank could not be so successful without the dedication of these volunteers who are as proud of our Okanagan Boys and Girls Club as we are! Armstrong Club love and respect our volunteers!Group 2015
